How does SmartGrowth work?

SmartGrowth is a collaborative approach that is supported and driven at both a political and officer level across the three local authorities of Tauranga City Council, Western Bay of Plenty District Council, Environment Bay of Plenty and Tangata Whenua.

There are also numerous other agencies and private sector organisations that play a key role in the planning for and delivery of SmartGrowth.

Committees, Groups and Forums
SmartGrowths collaborative approach is supported and implemented via key committees, groups and forums.

SmartGrowth Strategy Implementation
Within the strategy itself, there is a robust implementation plan. Each action within this plan has detailed information including an explanation, timeframe for completion, a list of lead and support agencies and cost estimates. It specifies which (if any) plan or policy document will be used to formally deliver the action, and notes any links the action may have to other actions in the Strategy.
