Sustainable development is becoming an issue of increasing importance at the national level.
There are various key pieces of national legislation, policy and strategy that SmartGrowth needs to give effect to at the sub-regional level.
These include the Resource Management Act 1991, the Local Government Act 2002, the Land Transport Management Act 2004 as amended by the Land Transport Management Amendment Act 2008 and various National Policy Statements and National Strategies.
SmartGrowth continually reviews and makes submissions on national legislation, policy and strategy to ensure that the western Bay of Plenty sub-regional issues are recognised at a national level and supported via key national documents.
